Department Activities:

The Department of Community Medicine aims to impart community-oriented medical education and conducts the following activities:

1 Theory and Practical classes fulfilling the medical curriculum prescribed by MCI and Dr. MGR University
2 Community oriented teaching through participation and interaction at community level
3 Research projects by faculties
4 CRRI research projects as part of completion of two months of community posting
5 Mentoring the ICMR awarded STS projects with medical undergraduates
6 Regular field exposure visits to sites of public health significance for medical undergraduates
7 Supervision of functioning of Rural Health Training Centre
8 Commemorating International and National days of health importance
9 Conduction of CME and workshops in research methodology and public health topics
10 Guiding students for paper presentation in national and state level conferences

Center-based activities:

Rural Health and Training Centre, Kelambakkam and Urban Health and Training Center, Chromepet under the supervision of Department of Community Medicine are carrying out the following activities:

1 Out patient department (OPD) services for common ailments
2 Admission and observation services for minor ailments
3 Community-oriented teaching for medical undergraduates
4 Regular household survey in the catchment population
5 CRRI activities:
I.OPD activities
II.Community-based research project
III.Out Reach camps-twice weekly
IV.Health Education sessions on weekly basis
6 Observation of health days at center and community
