The Department of Otolaryngology at Tagore medical college and hospital strives to provide highest standards of health care to the patients. The faculty, resident and the support staff are committed to provide a variety of services and treatment for diseases of the Ear, Nose, Throat and Head and Neck. The Department believes in an integrated process of research, teaching, and clinical activities. The department has 4 OPD cubicles with state of the art OPD units for examination of patients . The department provides services to the patients in the following sub-specialities :
- Otology
- Rhinology
- Audiology & Speech therapy
- Laryngology and phonosurgery
The department is well equipped with equipments like Zeiss microscope with teaching aid and recording facility, Stryker HD video camera and monitor , Karl Storz endoscopes, Xomed Straightshot ® M4 Microdebrider Powered Sinus Shaver system, audiometry and impedance. All ENT surgeries,including Functional endoscopic sinus surgeries, Advanced Endoscopic sinus surgery, microdebrider assisted FESS , Micro ear surgeries and Endoscopic ear surgeries are performed by an experienced team of specialists. Surgeries are carried out in the state of art theatre complex of the hospital on daily basis since there is a dedicated ENT Operation theater with latest equipments in the main OT complex.
The department has a well equipped speech and audiology wing with facilities for audiometry and tympanometry services. The speech therapists also take active care of patients suffering from speech and language disorders. The section of Audiology offers services for hearing loss, deafness and vertigo including hearing and balance evaluation and hearing aid evaluation. Free hearing aids are distributed through CM’s comprehensive health insurance scheme.
The department also has a Temporal bone dissection lab. The faculty and residents are trained to have hands on experience in performing temporal bone surgery. The department is constantly expanding and has a well equipped library with reference books.
The department has an ongoing research work in various areas of ENT. At present, there is research work on allergic rhinitis which will be published subsequently. The faculty members constantly update their knowledge on recent innovations in clinical practice
The Department has one unit with five faculty members.
Dr V M HemlataKatiyar has served the Indian Air Force as a short service commissioned officer for 5 yrs and subsequently completed her MS in ENT in 2004. Since then she has been in continuous clinical practice in various Indian cities. She has about 4 ½ yrs of teaching experience in ENT. She has published 3 original research articles and 02 case reports in international and national journals.
Dr D Elango has completed his DLO in 2003 and was working as ENT consultant for 05 yrs and completed his DNB (ENT) from Southern Railway Headquarters Hospital in 2010. Subsequently he has joined this institution and has about 4 ½ years of teaching experience. He has been the co author in 03 original research articles published during this period.
