The Department of Biochemistry at Tagore Medical College & Hospital, Rathinamangalam, Melakkottaiyur, and Chennai, India is a pre-clinical basic science department actively involved in teaching undergraduate medical students, conducting basic clinical research and maintaining high standards of clinical diagnostic services.
The department innovates constantly to teach students in these courses as effectively as possible, to enable them to comprehend the relevance of biochemistry in their fields and to be able to apply this knowledge in their future work as health care professionals. The faculty and students are encouraged to do research and publish scientific papers. The faculties have contributed publications in international and national journals.
The department is located in the ground floor of the College Campus and trains annually 150 undergraduate medical students & is in the process of starting postgraduate course in M.D.Biochemistry soon
Prize examination in Biochemistry :
The department conducts the prize examination for the 1st M.B.B.S students every year and awards Medals and Certificate of Merit.
Clinical Laboratory services :
The diagnostic clinical biochemistry laboratory is located in the first floor of the hospital campus as part of central clinical laboratory services. The clinical laboratory is well equipped with fully automated random access clinical chemistry analyzer with a throughput of 200 samples / hour and manned by a committed team of qualified technical staff and constantly supervised by the faculty to maintain high standards of lab reports.
In addition to carrying out routine clinical biochemical test we also offer specialized tests namely hormones, tumour markers, Glycated hemoglobin and life saving investigations like Troponin-T. The Clinical biochemistry lab offers 24×7 clinical diagnostics services.

Completed undergraduation from Madurai medical college in 1985 and post graduation in 2000 from Madras medical college. Started my carrier in Sri Ramachandra Medical college & Research institute & continued in Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute till November 2018. Joined as Professor and Head in Tagore Medical College & Hospital on 11th Feb 2019.
