One of the world’s largest vaccination campaign to vaccinate more than 35 million kids of age 9 month to 15 years with MR vaccine is commenced by the government of India in 5 states / UT’s. (TN, Karnataka, Puduchery, Lakshadweep and Goa) from 6th to 28th Feb, 2017. To eradicate Measles & Rubella
Measles is highly infectious, potentially fatal viral disease and mostly affects children.
Rubella is equally infectious yet mild viral illness affecting both children and adults. Rubella infection when acquired in first trimester of pregnancy may cause Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) Spontaneous abortions, still births and babies born with multi organ congenital anomalies – Including Hearing impairment, cataract & Cardiac anomalies.
Both measles and Rubella is completely preventable with MR vaccine.
On 02/02/2017, an awareness programme regarding MR vaccination campaign was organized in TMCH, at the Lecture hall with the august presence of Dr. Ubedh, CDC, Atlanta, a training workshop for MR vaccine was conducted by Dr. Ragunath , Surveillance Medical officer, WHO – NPSP, along with active participation of our Dean, Medical superintendent and all the faculties and students of our college.
As per NTAGI (National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization), all children (both boys & girls) between 9 months and 15 yrs. regardless of previous vaccination status or history of measles or Rubella like illness, will be vaccinated.
Campaign is conducted in all Government and private schools, ICDS centers and Health sub centers. After the campaign, MR vaccine will replace measles vaccine in UIP. First dose between 10 – 12 months and second dose between 16 – 24 months will be administered respectively.
